Brahma Chickens

THE BRAHMA BREED
The Brahma Chicken is a large bird, developed in the United States from birds imported from the Chinese port of Shanghai. Despite their massive size and intimidating appearance they are gentle giants. They are elegant chickens that move with grace and purpose; they will defend their flock against small predators. They are dual purpose chickens producing ultimate table meat and eggs. They are better in cooler climates and thrive in the north where the weather can be brutally cold. They prefer laying in the cooler months and slow down as spring starts to arrive. Brahmas take up to 7 months to lay but they reward you with their tasty medium sized brown eggs. Production rate is approx. 3-4 per week and their lifespan is 8+ years. They come in dark, light and buff colors. Their feathers extend down the legs and cover the two outer toes. Brahmas are one of the most laid back breeds there is, not a lap bird but certainly not averse to begging for treats.
